We are transparent about our manufacturing and construction processes.

If you want the best, if you're tired of settling, if you like to be in control (or all of the above), custom luxury furniture is perfect for you. At Studio 289, we ensure our clients are involved in the process from start to finish, and we strive to make the whole thing as transparent as possible. Unlike conventional retailers, we don't rely on overseas factories, convoluted supply chains or anonymous workers. Your handmade furniture is constructed on-site by our artisans using ethically sourced materials, and we welcome you to come and observe as its being built.

Here's a quick rundown on how it all works:

Step 1

During our consultations, we discuss your needs and propose solutions based on your preferences. Our goal is to create an aesthetically pleasing piece of quality furniture that is functional and comfortable—we want you to enjoy using it! Looking at pictures of the space, we factor in the dimensions involved, what you use the room for, and the furnishings already there to envision the ideal piece. We run a very agile operation, so feel free to bring in images of what you have in mind, samples of fabric you like, or colour swatches for us to customize to your heart's content.

Step 2

We submit sketches to you based on our discussions and ask for your feedback. Once we've incorporated your ideas and you've settled on the design, we get to work...but we're not quite in the home stretch yet. Because we're perfectionists, we create a life-size prototype first— sort of a 3D rough draft—so we can work out the kinks before we go on to build the actual piece. For many of our clients, this is their favourite part (aside from seeing the finished product) because it gives them an opportunity to see their design come to life. Once we've gone through all the details closely, the construction begins!

Step 3

This is where it starts coming together. Using the measurements we fine-tuned during the prototype stage, our skilled frame makers prep and cut the wood. Some clients like to take a look at the frame when we're done with it, and we don't mind at all—in fact, we encourage it! Once the foundation is complete, we begin on the support and upholstery. Our furniture makers cut and sew the fabric, placing webbing and springs as required and as per your specifications (by client request, we can adjust for attributes like height and firmness). Once it's completed and approved by our QA team, we prepare it for transport to its new home—yours!

More and more, consumers are demanding better production methods from the companies they shop from, and rightfully so. At Studio 289, we have nothing to hide. Our custom made furniture is the perfect, transparent alternative to what’s typically found at furniture stores. If how it's made matters to you, just ask!
